Ron Ruelle has been doing editorial cartoons for The Boulder County Business Report since 1999. The cartoons generally need to have a very local and/or business slant, which can be a challenge to write at times, especially on short deadline.

Some of the cartoons below come with a bit of explanation for those of you not from Boulder. (This town can be a little, umm, odd at times.)

By the way, Ron recently won 2006 Second place, 2005 Second Place award and 2004 First Place awards for Editorial Cartooning from the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists for some of the work seen here.

I forget why I did a cartoon on this topic, but it explains a lot about me...

The Whole Foods/Wild Oats merger has been great fodder for cartoons lately.

To celebrate my 10-year anniversary of moving to Boulder, the Business Report graciously gave me a full page to do whatever the heck I wanted. I could have easily filled a couple more pages if I wanted to.

The University of Colorado recently scrapped its almost 100 year old Men's Tennis program to save money. Part of the budget shortfall was due to the huge cash settlement owed to Gary Barnett, the former football coach, when he was fired.

In the last panel, it helps to know that The Bustop is the only strip club in Boulder.

I normally don't do cartoons about golf unless they involve concrete dinosaurs, but we needed one for this issue of the paper.

The University of Colorado has recieved a lot of bad press recently for loose cannon professors, rioting students and a football recruiting scandal. CU's president resigned recently on top of all this...

Boulder, despite all its high-tech know-how, was one of the last cities in the U.S. to count its ballots in the 2004 election. Not that it mattered much...

Crossroads Mall was a decrepit place that has since been replaced by a shopping district called 29th Street. The University of Colorado football recruiting scandal... well, that probably made the news in your town...

The cartoon below never ran. The day it was supposed to go to press, some more serious allegations surfaced about the CU football program and I decided it was no longer in good taste. I had just a couple of hours to come up with a new idea and crank it out. The "Peanuts" inspired cartoon above replaced it.
